His ways are not our ways!

I can't even begin to understand the why's and reason's of life. But if you think you have a handle on it read this story posted here
It is amazing and sad at the same time.

Well here is the answer.

Not too long ago we were enjoying some family time and Rachel whispered to Tim. His response was "Ask him your self."
So she smiled sweetly and said "Daddy, will you make me something?"
To make a long story short, I was given request for a lingerie dresser. And after several months this is the results. No, it did not take month to build, just months to get started. It still needs the handles and another coat of finish but the delivery date is nearing.
The first one always has a sharp learning curve as I work through the steps. I already have request (orders) for several more. If I have not gotten your order, sorry the catalog has expired!

Continue to pray for Indonesia

For those of us on the West coast fault lines, stories like this always bring a rush of "big one" reminders.
Sue and I have taken teams of students into this area and have friends there.

Gotta love a short week!

For those who live Nort' of the border this has been a short week. Monday was a holiday, "May long weekend" which makes for a four day work week. Wonderful rain and grey conditions have made it feel like Vancouver again. Wonder if we have just had our summer?
I will be back in the playroom Saturday, finishing up the mystery project. And although there were many great guesses, no one really got it right with their first guess. And no there isn't really any prize although a correct guess may have placed you on the list of future recipients. Who knows there may be a bag of sawdust in your future.
And as an added bonus:

Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get
a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris
walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman
on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke
to Morris and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?"

Morris replied, "Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a
hot mamma and be cheerful.'

" The doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said,
'You've got a heart murmur; be careful.'"

Guess what this will become.

This small pile of oak and poplar will become something soon. Any guesses?

One of the joys of townhouse living is very few landscapping chores. Other then cleaning up after the pup, only the flower garden areas need any attention. Sue does a great job each year of planting and maintaining these areas. This last weekend I snapped these photos. I managed to catch Brandy in one but was ordered not to catch Sue in any of them. I did get her in one but I value life too much to post it.

Finally!!

As I have mentioned before we have been working towards a formal recognition of Christ For The Nations Bible College by the province of BC. We have watched as the bill passed through several revisions and setbacks. We had prayed and felt the release of the Lord to pursue the bill in the first place and the faith to hold on through these last four plus years. As of late yesterday afternoon Royal assent was given and the bill became law. It establishes CFNBC as a college offering Bachelor's degrees in practical Theology.

Here is the transcript of the last bit of the process. Not a part of the process in the US, here the Queen's representative must give assent to all new laws. Here it is:

One of the best friends anyone could ever want is our best friends Clint and Becky. Their family live in God’s country on a sprawling ranch. A big ranch needs a big dog and the big fellow shown above is Abe. A mastiff, he was a gentle giant. Although we only met him a couple of times, he welcomed us as one of the family and greeted us with a tail wag and a slurp from his ever slobbery tongue. Abe passed yesterday and He shall be missed.

Back to using IE

Man! I have been using Firefox and lovin' it but I have noticed some recurrent problems lately. For one thing I will find FF running in the background, not having fully shut down when the red X is clicked. I would find this out when I would try and start it again. the only solution was to Alt-ctrl-del and then find it on the process tab. This is not a deal breaker but the other one is. My hibernate or sleep function on my laptop stopped working. I blamed the laptop software but on a hunch, I uninstalled FF and now it is working again. Bummer- all my favorites and links were so convenient on FF. Oh well I guess I have to wait until I win the lottery and the by a Mac.

Never a dull moment!

Marge
Juanita

Happy Mother's Day to our mothers!

We are traveling down to see 3/5 of our family today. Next year it could be 5/5 if all goes well. Sue is playing the piano which she does most mornings during her devotional time and the bird is singing along. He is a riot in the mornings; laughing and chatting in a random but humormous string of words. He loves to laugh and that is the most common sounds he makes. Of course he only learns what he hears so I guess that is not bad.
Brandy learned to ignore him and we just laugh at his antics. He gets left behind in the Condo" while we are gone so he is getting extra attention this morning. Brandy gets to go but will get laughed at by the kids. She is needing a haircut real bad and it makes her look very round. Carrie calls her "Fatty McButterball" and today I guess that fits.
Enjoy your day!

A critique of the church pt 2

Becky, a frequent reader of TBGC sent me this comment via e-mail. I thought she made some valid points so I am reposting it as a comment;

I'm not regular about checking your Blog, but it's up on my favorites list and I sure do enjoy it. I read the whole link re the Seattle churches, and have some thoughts., especially since the church my son attends (in LA) was shut down last week. (more on that later)
I think that a church that opens communion to everyone is slipping down a slippery path and unfortunately carrying a lot of folks along down. Case in point is my brother wife (a Thai Buddhist) blissfully takes communion then says over lunch she "doesn't need Jesus." When I confront my brother about taking the Lord's supper in an unworthy manner he explodes in a rage -- I'll spare the details.
A large church in Bellingham invited everybody to communion, and also baptized anybody. When I confronted the pastor about that he shrugged, "that's God's business." Shortly after that incident the church exploded apart when the pastor was discovered to be deep in sin -- Need we remind ourselves of all the similar stories?
Unless a new Christian -- or any Christian, for that matter -- understands the meaning of partaking in the body of Jesus, identifying with His death and understanding our need of a Savior, etc. don't you think our instruction and discipling has been remiss?
In the LA church an anointed gifted son of a ditto dad and mother who planted the church, was appointed senior pastor at age 29 so that his parents could move on and start another. Once in charge he appointed about 8 "leaders" to serve him, one of them a 300 pound 29 year old who had just married his second wife and was showing up in a limo with both wives and the assorted children to sit in the front rows of the church and to be "welcomed by the congregation." The pastor's explanation: We accept everybody.
The young man's father swiftly contacted the members, told them to stay away, and closed down the church. Thank God for a godly father....
Well, as Paul told Timothy, guard your doctrine-- avoid the profane and idle babblings...!
Maybe Guard Your Doctrine could be a required- for- graduation class at CFN, .... eh?
For what it's worth... back to the cookie dough.
Lots of love, B.

Another source for the news

Recently a conservative writer started a video blog sight for (admittedly) conservative video clips. I visit everyday but have resisted the urge to link there. Until today that is. This link will take you to a video clip about the brave women journalists who stand up to the islamists. Some have died already, others are under fatwa for their views. Everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike should be aware of the fight. It is worth hearing.

A critique of the church

A critique of the church in an unusual place. Chris, a friend of ours has recently moved to Seattle. Before he came here, he and our oldest son Ken were planting an emergent style church in North Carolina. Anyway, he came upon this article in "The Stranger", Seattle's main alternative newspaper. It is a fairly long article about the health and message of some of Seattle’s churches from Mars Hill to small storefronts like Church on the Hill. Follow this link, read the feature article and see where you fit

Wedding today

Another student couple ties the knot today. The meeting, dating, courtship, engagement have all taken place during the time while they were here at school. That is rare. Each have an active churchlife and the wedding should be a wonderful reunion of sorts. Lots of items are set on the back burner today as a result but that is what community is all about. Things will get done later but "There is a time to dance" and today the celebration will be sweet.

But Where is the bagger?

Now that is what I call a mower! Eh Kent? BJ could sure mow the place fast with this one. However, it may cause a fight as the teenagers will want their turn.

Now for a bit of Science

This link is from NASA and shows how water reacts in zero gravity. Pretty cool, but I found the link slow. Good luck!
